I’m hooked enough to keep watching for the duration. I’m a sucker for comic adaptations of anything. I liked the mood, feel and drizzly, dirty atmospherics of the show. As one critic astutely pointed out, the pilot owes a lot to the movie, “7”, and they are right. Seeing Ben Mackenzie’s Jim Gordon running like a whirling dervish reminded me of Brad Pitt’s David Mills down to the leather jacket and bandaged hand.
Mackenzie as Gordon is gonna have to find a balance between tightly coiled menace and some semblance of controlled and measure calm cuz as of now, he just looks like his character on “Southland” got promoted and moved to a crappier place. He’s still pretty badass though.
That title card and theme music have got to change. Floaty words with police light red and blue. LAMESAUCE.
Donal Logue as Bullock has the build and look, but his voice doesnt sound right as the character. I’m sure it will grow on me as Donal Logue is a good character actor for the most part.
I thought Alfred was a high class Brit. Coulda sworn i heard some cockney or guttural Scottish accent mixed in. Oh well.
The guy playing Cobblepott acquitted himself nicely enough, but the little girl playing young Catwoman is already getting on my nerves without saying a word. Its all her feline-esque posing and posturing. We get it girl. You’re one lithe little minx. Check. But she’s overdoing it.
The surprise for me was of course, Jada Pinkett, as Fish Mooney. Either she was a character that was originally male or they wrote her just for the show. Either way she owns it. I was hesitant after her last show of self righteous smarminess, hospital show, “Hawthorne” but she’s really chewing that scenery and having fun. Good for her. Cuz usually when she acts, she never seems to have any fun.
A great start to the FALL 2014 TV season!
The is one awesome under the radar sci fi flick. I remember it having so many release date issues and being done for awhile and no one wanting to touch it and i dont know. I think there were budgetary concerns too. It looks like every penny was well spent to me. Its all on the screen.
Set on a train in dystopian times of, of course, a global cataclysm, it drops you right into the story of the have and have nots on this speeding train where there is a very unfair caste system in place, much like our class warfare of today. It speaks as an allegory to the 1 and 99%. It has a gritty, dirty, soul sucking atmosphere of say, “DISTRICT 9”. But CAPTAIN AMERICA has a plan and its ambitious and it dangerous but they’re sick of this crap cuz they been at the back of the proverbial train for years.
The action is intense and nearly unrelenting. Its just a great all around movie that has you rooting for the righting of wrongs, but when all is said and done, the cost may be too high, a pyrrhic victory in the truest since of the word
IDK man. I wasnt feeling this one. Usually i like SPIKE JONZE stuff, but this one felt more SOFIA COPPOLA to me cuz it literally had the same feel, mood and tone as “LOST IN TRANSLATION” and JOAQUIN PHOENIX was just taking scar-jo’s place as the wanderer. These movies where the milquetoast protagonist is just socially maladjusted and weird just for the sake of it (DON JON, THE MASTER, aforementioned L.I.T., LARS AND THE REAL GIRL) piss me off. How many times can they milk this formula
These dudes, just need to cowboy up and get over there ex or whatever. And everyone around them coddles them. No one pulls a CHER and slaps the crap out of them to get their mind right. They spend, and HER is no exception, the movie, just meandering aimlessly and looking wounded and melancholy. Its a debbie friggin downer and i’m surprised a i made it through the movie.
There was a big deal made when this came out that SCAR JO deserved an oscar nom for her vocal prowess at the voice of the os. I call flag on the play. She wasnt that awesome. Hell BRUCE WILLIS as the baby in “LOOK WHO’S TALKING” was better, BRADLEY COOPER as ROCKET in “GOTG” was more memorable. It literally sounded like scarjo was in her jammies reading the script.
The one upside was the movie had a great score/soundtrack.
This show has by far been the most surprising of the summer. This is basically the new WALKING DEAD or WALKING DEAD for vampires. The most recent episode at the gas station. Classic. Just took it to another level, TWD level. Loving this show and its weird cuz before it came on i wasnt even checking for it. But it has been very rewarding. The gore factor is high, so if you cant handle “TWD” level of violence, this show aint for you.
The show is by GUILLERMO DEL TORO (HELLBOY) and its basically the movie “BLADE 2” but like if BLADE didnt save the day and the events of that movie continued to play out. The vamps kinda look the same; im just waiting for THE DAYWALKER to step out and cause some carnage. At any rate, this show is a sleeper. If you arent watching it, you need to get on it doggonit!
